I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of
your two letters dated 1st. July, which have been forwáded to
the Government.
In reply, I am directed to inform you that
His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government cannot
accept your resignation in its present foru, namely as if made
under threat of dismissal, when as a matter of fact you were
distinctly informed by me in the presence of Mr. Ralphs that
you were given the alternative of resigning forthwith, or of
meating the charges which had been made against you, the
nature of which I then made known to you.
I am therefore to inform you that unless
you withdraw the letter addressed to me personally your
resignation will not be accepted, but you will be proceeded
against under the Colonial Office Regulations.
